got e-mailed the info below… *City to the Sea* symposium workshop  11th-13th June 2010*

*We are pleased to announce a special Urban Encounters and Centre for Urban
and Community Research (Goldsmiths) photographic event focusing on the
relationship between cities and their related coastal areas. This year’s
symposium and workshop event will combine short presentations along with
practice workshops and draws on a wide range of practice-based and academic
speakers, including: Peter Marlow (Magnum Photos)
Anna Fox, 2010 Deutsch Börse photography prize-nominated photographer —
(University for the Creative Arts, Farnham)
Prof Caroline Knowles (Goldsmiths)
Prof Les Back (Goldsmiths)
Paul Halliday (Goldsmiths)
Isidro Ramirez (Kingston)
Gabrielle Bendiner-Viani (The New School, New York)

The event has been generously supported by Butlins and Arun District
Council. We anticipate a high demand for the event, and have a limited
amount of accommodation tickets for a price of £138 including 2 nights at
Butlins in their new, high-end accommodation. The event is part of the Urban
Encounters festival held with Tate Britain and Goldsmiths, University of
London, and will provide attendees with the opportunity to explore debates
within photographic practice, urban ethnography, visual research and project
development. The main workshops will focus on urban landscape, portraiture,
objects and photographic practice. Please find attached an event programme and poster for circulation. It would
be really terrific to have LIP members along. Please do be in touch if you
have any questions, and to reserve tickets, please go to
